The Bellevue Underground Mine

Museum & Historic Site

Venture below for a cool hands-on history lesson at the Bellevue Underground Coal Mine. Using only your headlamp and guide’s lantern for light, you’ll explore the dark narrow tunnel and learn how workers risked their lives every time they entered the mine. While wandering the disorientating angled passageway, expect goosebump-inducing stories of explosions and sandwich-sharing packrats. Feeling brave? Switch of your headlamp at the end of the tour and plunge into a darkness so black that your eyes will never adjust. In response to COVID-19, their hours of operation have been reduced to 10am - 3pm. Tours run every hour with a maximum of 10 people. All equipment provided during tours (hard hats, belts and lights) are disinfected after each use and staff are wearing face masks.
