Chris' Brings all the Locals to the Yard

July 3, 2018

An unassuming eatery reminiscent of a fifties diner, with fluorescent lighting, a dozen tables and a counter accommodating a handful of round stools, is a hidden culinary gem. Try one of their eighteen mouth-watering milkshake varieties, yummy floats or tasty ice cream treats that are sure to please.

Legendary for its non-stop coffee, and homemade pies with old-fashioned meringue toppings, Chris’ Restaurant has survived a 46-year run that puts many big city establishments to shame.

For those who favour savoury flavours, Chris’ French fries are a must-try. Paired with a burger, a Reuben or grilled cheese sandwich, a delicious meal at Chris’ is hard to beat at taste and price.

The restaurant is a favourite meeting and dining place for locals and their guests. It may seem a paradox to make reservations at an old coal miners’ café, but at Chris’ Restaurant, even regulars book tables.

Local hotels and B&Bs have Chris’ on their must-eat-at lists, and the local high school sends visiting sports teams to the diner to enjoy a meal or two during their stay.

Chris LaRose is the owner and operator of the restaurant, and has been since 1975. She is the link between the kitchen and the customers, plating food and passing the meals to the servers while taking orders over the phone.

Chris works alongside family and friends: her husband and two daughters, plus a half dozen other kitchen and serving staff keep the meals a-coming, and ensure they are piping hot and fresh.

Stop by for coffee and pie, a shake, or a meal at Chris’ Restaurant, located in Crowsnest Pass at 7802 17 Ave., Coleman.
