Join us as we make the most of the winter season in Crowsnest Pass!

Celebrate winter fun on skis

Whether you’re a ski hill pro or looking for something new to try, Pass Powderkeg (PPK) is the perfect destination for those looking to enjoy the winter months in the Pass. The beginner-friendly terrain at PPK is designed to nurture your love for skiing and create lasting memories. PPK also boasts some of the least expensive rates at an Alberta ski hill, this trip won’t break the bank. With the hills officially opening on November 30, this is the perfect spot for adventure-seekers.

For a more serene winter experience, strap on your cross-country skis (or snowshoes!) and explore the vast network of trails in the area. The Allison-Chinook Recreation Area and the Crowsnest Nordic Ski Club maintain a variety of trails that wind through snow-covered forests and open meadows. These trails offer a peaceful escape into nature, where you can enjoy the crisp winter air and the quiet beauty of the landscape. But keep an eye out for wildlife, as deer, elk, and even the occasional moose can be spotted along the way!

Explore the back country & unique winter activities

Crowsnest Pass also offers some unique winter activities that are sure to create lasting memories. Ice fishing on Crowsnest Lake is a popular pastime, where you can try your luck at catching trout and whitefish. The lake’s clear, icy waters provide a calming backdrop for a day of fishing. For the more adventurous, ice climbing on the frozen waterfalls in the area is an exhilarating experience.

The snowmobiling season in the Pass usually kicks off at the end of November, and continues until the beginning of May. This long season is credited to the dry, fluffy powder snow that is typical of the area’s winter precipitation. The CrowSnow Riders, a local organization of enthusiasts, recommend that anyone heading out to snowmobile ensure they have safe riding practices, are prepared for emergencies, and have appropriate gear. Dressing in layers, and bringing food, water and a First Aid kit are essential. Snowmobilers ready to ride can pick up a map or brochure at the Visitor’s Centre or at any of the local gas stations.
