It all started with a question. The niece of owners Val and Rick Breckenridge asked if she could have her big day at the family’s flower farm in Hillcrest – a stunning private property in the mountains with fresh flowers and greenery all around.

After rave reviews from family and friends, Val and Rick embraced opportunity to transform their property from cottage, greenhouse and nursery to include an outdoor park, covered venue, and private Bed & Breakfast.

What sets SpringBreak Flower Farm apart from other mountain wedding venues (aside from the scenery and intimate location)? The bridal party typically stays in the onsite Bed & Breakfast. Usually the morning of the wedding, the bride and bridesmaids use the cottage to get ready – and it is just 40 short steps from the wedding altar.

Accommodations have enough room to host the entire wedding party before, during and after the wedding, and nearby campsites, cabins and B&Bs are available for guests.

Outdoor weddings are held in the onsite Picnic Park, but ceremonies can be moved into the shelter of the greenhouse if need be. Couples can also select a complete wedding package thanks to a collaboration with Country Encounters Hospitality (local B&B and caterer) who offers delicious catering.

Those looking to take a peek at the property before saying “I do,” can visit SpringBreak’s Picnic Park which is open to the public, except for during wedding weekends between mid-June to September.

SpringBreak Flower Farm has grown in popularity, and has attracted couples to Crowsnest Pass from across the country ever since. This unique wedding venue, with breathtaking scenery and country charm is one of the most popular (and affordable) wedding destinations in the mountains. Couples must be warned to book ahead, as the venue books up very quickly.

Despite the leaning towards wedding bells, the garden centre is still a thriving part of the farm. Flowers and plants are available for purchase, and the greenhouse is worth a walk-through.

Another cool feature? Canada’s longest grapevine is on the property. Visitors can catch a glimpse of the vine anytime, but Rick and Val recommend visits in July, when the more than 500 pounds of grapes are ripe on the 2,000 square foot vine.
