As vintage as its namesake, the Orpheum Theatre in Blairmore provides an authentic movie experience from the days of silent films and black-and-white reels.

The Theatre was built in 1921, and was opened by Italian immigrant Peter Umbertino, who also ran the Blairmore Opera house at that time. The actual structure was designed and constructed by Enrico Pozzi, who repurposed the building’s distinctive bricks from an older building in Frank.

The Orpheum Theatre has gained heritage value, and solidified its place as a local social hub. In addition to movies, the theatre has hosted many events ranging from miner meetings (during strikes, when open-air gatherings of miners was forbidden) to birthday parties.

An excellent addition to a historical tour of The Pass, the Theatre is an easily identifiable building on Main Street, with its red brick façade, neon signage, and authentic playbill.

Today, the Orpheum Theatre is best known for screenings of modern Hollywood blockbusters, and as a unique event venue.

The Theatre is open seven nights a week, with nightly showings at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., when events are not booked. The Orpheum Theatre is available for rent as an event venue for independent film premieres, seminars and even private events.
