Wintervention 2023

February 6, 2023

It’s that time of year again! Wintervention 2023 is almost here, which means folks from the Pass gather over three-days for a mix of indoor and outdoor fun. Proceeds are used to help raise funds for the Roxy. Our annual winter festival is a great way to break the ice and shake the winter blues – especially since that pesky ground hog is calling for six more weeks of winter! But let’s be real, if you live in or visit the Pass, you love what every season has to offer!

Wintervention festivities are held on February 24 – 26th

Here’s what’s in store for this year’s celebrations:

Friday February 24

Start your weekend off with some shopping! Check out local vendors and artisanal offerings at the Community Market, held at the Elks Hall in Blairmore, 3-7pm.

Saturday February 25

Weekend mornings usually call for cracking eggs into a frying pan or flipping pancakes, but Wintervention is the exception of oddities! Head over to the Public Art Gallery for the Frying Pan Toss competition. Contestants will toss a skillet as far as they can and the farthest throw wins! Skillets will take flight at 10:00am.

After the Frying Pan Toss stick around to fill your tummies at the Annual Chili Bowl Festival. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children, which includes a locally made hand-potted bowl donated by the Pass Pottery Club. Pick your bowl and fill it with chili! Enjoy with a bun and a cookie for dessert! Eat, visit, and be cozy. First come, first served.

11am – 2pm, Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery, Frank

After lunch, make your way to the Pass PowderKeg in Blairmore and cheer on the Human Dog Sled Races! This Wintervention classic takes place at the PPK lodge, where teams of three will compete against each other. Teams are made up of three adults, three youths, or a mix of both! This family friendly race is sure to make you smile (no bookies in sight)!

1pm – 4pm, Pass PowderKeg, Blairmore

If dancing is more your speed, be sure to buy your tickets to Rock the Decades! Pull out your favourite bell bottoms, or dress to the nines like Jackie O. Shake off the winter blues with dinner, dancing and a silent auction. The MDM Community Centre hosts Shake the Shack, with on The Rox, in partnership with The Roxy. Cocktails at 5:30, Dinner at 6:30pm, $75 per person. Visit www.crowsnestcando.ca for more information.

February 26, Sunday Funday!

Our favourite way to reset is by spending time outside. Crowsnest Lake will host its first ever Mini-Curl and Crokicurl games, beginning at 12:30pm. Enjoy the sun, fresh air, and Canada’s other popularly known winter sport.

Wintervention is one of many better kept secrets of the Pass. It’s a unique experience, that incorporates Canadiana, the incredible people in the five surrounding communities and three full days of fun. We welcome you to join us at this year's events and see what makes the Pass so unique.
