Unique Culinary Offerings at Pass Powderkeg

July 18, 2018

Best known for being uncrowded and unspoiled – Pass Powderkeg is the ultimate destination for skiers of all levels. In an effort to introduce more people to a love of the slopes, Pass Powderkeg invites beginners to ride the bunny hill and tow rope for free, while experienced skiers can enjoy the terrain park and over 20 blue and black diamond runs. But wait – there’s more.
Beyond the untracked powder and incredible trail runs on this secluded mountain, Pass Powderkeg offers something that is not very common on the slopes – a unique culinary experience.

Straying away from what is typically found in a ski lodge cafeteria – hot dogs, fries, burgers – Pass Powderkeg offers a variety of unique comfort foods, exotic dishes, and is best known for its delicious brussel sprouts! Yes, brussel sprouts – that was not a typo.

Chef Alejandro Verdi

Executive Chef Alejandro Verdi joined the team over a year ago and brought with him an exotic flair that has completely transformed the ski lodge dining experience. Trained at the Culinary Art Institute of Vancouver, Alejandro is known for combining flavours and cooking concepts from around the world that result in simple yet memorable dishes. Prior to joining the team at Pass Powderkeg, Alejandro was the chef and co-owner at the popular Antigua Restaurant in Blairmore. A few years ago, he created a Brussel sprout dish that went viral in The Pass. They were such a big hit with the locals, that as soon as it was announced that Verdi was joining the team, people were asking about this dish. They are available on the Pass Powderkeg menu and are highly recommended to anyone who has yet to try them – this is usually followed by a puzzled reaction. But once you try them you will understand. It is the perfect addition to his one-of-a-kind menu.

Not Your Traditional Ski Hill Menu

After a day of cruising the slopes, visitors can relax in the historic lodge and enjoy spectacular mountain views with their 5-star lunch. If you want to cozy up with some classic comfort foods, options include grilled cheese sandwiches, poutine and pulled pork. For those looking to explore some more adventurous options, outdoor enthusiasts can warm up with a ramen noodle bowl, chickpea curry, Korean ribs or tandoori cauliflower sandwiches.

Pass Powderkeg is truly a hidden gem that is not to be underestimated. Tucked away off of Highway 3 in the town of Blairmore, the ski hill offers an incredible overall experience– from adventure to dining – there’s something for the whole family. As an added incentive for you to eat your vegetables, the first 50 adult season passes sold, will come with a certificate for a free order of the famous Brussel sprouts! Snow seekers won’t want to miss this.
